5 Ways to Make Your Home Feel Cozy

Winter is here and it is time to make our homes feel cozy. In my area, we are expecting our first snow this weekend. We find ourselves wanting to stay at home more because it gets dark earlier and it’s cold outside. This is why a cozy home is so important to us. We want to feel warm and snuggly plus have some fun things to do in case we get snowed in for a few days. Here are our top 5 tips to make your home feel cozy and warm this winter

Robby’s current puzzle
  1. Robby enjoys having a good puzzle going at all times. He has a table in the corner of our living room that always has a puzzle on it. To begin each puzzle, he finds all of the straight edge pieces, and then he separates them out by color. He leaves all of the pieces out, so anyone who visits our home can work on the puzzle. Robby has experimented with all sizes of puzzles but has decided that he likes the 500 piece best. His favorite brand of puzzle is Buffalo puzzles like this one: Buffalo Games – Americana Collection – Country Store – 500 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle
  2. We try to always have cozy food ready to cook. Some of our favorites are chili, stew, and roast when the weather turns cold. We thaw and heat vegetable beef stew we had made last summer from fresh vegetables we got at our local farmer’s market. The berries we picked in June are frozen and ready to be made into a warm and delicious cobbler. We keep all the ingredients on hand so when the cold weather comes, we aren’t caught off guard. Nothing is better than eating cozy food while watching the snowfall!
  3. I love a good book on cold nights. I don’t always have the time to read a novel, so I have found a genre of books called cozy mysteries. Cozy mysteries take place in a small town or community and are wholesome. They are fairly short and are easy to read. My favorite author right now is Hope Callaghan, and some of my favorite series are Cruise Ship Mysteries, Made in Savannah, The Divine Series, and The Garden Girls. I feel like I know all of the characters personally! I usually read on my Kindle, but you can also order them in paperback form. A cozy mystery in a cozy home is the perfect combination! Here is one of my favorites: Divine Intervention: A Divine Cozy Mystery (Divine Christian Cozy Mysteries Series Book 1)
  4. Our house wouldn’t feel complete without lots of blankets and throws. They are on every couch, at the end of our bed, and even in a storage area in our coffee table. I LOVE blankets! I am always cold, and Robby can’t handle our thermostat being over 70, so blankets are my lifeline! We have thin blankets, thick ones, and furry ones, but my very favorite is the one Robby gave me. It is an electric couch blanket. I plug it in, set my desired heat, (many times that is on high) and then snuggle up with it. My only problem with this blanket is that my dog Max is always trying to steal it from me! Blankets strategically placed all over the home helps to make your home feel cozy! This is a throw that is similar to the one Robby gave me Biddeford 4480-9064114-633 Electric Heated Micro Mink/Sherpa Throw, 50-Inch by 62-Inch, Sage
  5. Robby and I have rekindled our love of games lately, and have been restocking our game closet. We found one game we really enjoy playing together. It is called Ticket to Ride, and it’s all about strategy. The goal of the game is to reach destinations while also building the longest continual track. While it is an easy game to play, the strategy is what makes it interesting. While I am building my track, I have to keep an eye on Robby to make sure he doesn’t block me from reaching a destination! It only takes about 30 minutes to an hour to play, and it’s the perfect thing to pull out when it’s too cold to go out for entertainment!
