A Valentine’s Day Getaway to Tulsa

A few years ago, Robby decided to surprise me with a Valentine’s Day getaway to Tulsa. When I woke up Robby had our suitcases out and told me to pack for an overnight trip. When I asked where we were going, he said the whole day would be a surprise! I packed up as fast as I could and we headed out. I didn’t realize that he would have activities planned for us before we left town!

Bowling and Eating Before we Left

As soon as we got in the car he gave me a pair of socks. I enjoy a good pair of socks but thought it was an unusual Valentine gift! They came in handy however when we got to our local bowling alley! Robby had reserved us a lane, and we had so much fun! When we had gone bowling before, it was with our kids, so it was fun for just the two of us to bowl together.

After bowling, we went to Fish City and enjoyed some shrimp, gumbo, and Po Boys before we took off for our mystery destination. As we began to drive on the highway to Tulsa Robby and I talked and talked. This is one of the reasons I love road trips with Robby, we both enjoy talking!

Re-Discovering Downtown Tulsa

As we drove into Tulsa I was surprised that Robby was heading downtown. In the past when we stayed in Tulsa we stayed at a chain hotel on the outskirts of town. Little did I know that Robby had researched hotels in Tulsa and found that the Ambassador Hotel was highly recommended. The Ambassador is a hotel that was built in the 1920s and was originally a place for the wealthy oil tycoons to stay when they were in town. Now the hotel has been refurbished and has been brought back to its original glory as a beautiful place to stay. The bedding was so comfortable and we loved the robes in our room. We were surprised to find a flower, some candy and a box of fine chocolates on our bed for Valentine’s Day! They truly thought of everything to make our stay special. https://ambassadortulsa.com/

After we checked-in, we ate out and went to the movies. At that time our area did not have reclining seat movie theaters, so that was a real treat! The next day included shopping in the downtown area and eating pizza at Andolini’s Pizzaria which was amazing. Andolini’s makes New York style pizza and they make their own mozzarella cheese. They also have toppings such as smoked mozzarella, prosciutto, and fresh basil so you can order a pizza that is truly out of the ordinary. https://www.andopizza.com/

Trying New Things in Familiar Places

Besides having an amazing time with Robby, you know what my favorite part of our trip was? It was going somewhere different and trying new places. When we were younger we went to Tulsa often, but the more NW Arkansas developed the less we went to Tulsa. What we rediscovered is that Tulsa has a rich history and some unique places to try. The downtown area is once again becoming a fun and trendy place to be. Tulsa has a little something for everyone and if you need a romantic surprise getaway then head over there and discover some new places. A Valentine’s Day getaway to Tulsa may be just what you are needing!
